Why I'm a Conservative

1. Government’s powers should be limited
- “ The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or the people.” (U.S. Constitution, 10th Amendment)
- “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” (Matthew 22:21)
- Our forefathers knew from experience (as do we) that government unchecked is not a good thing.

2. Life begins at conception
- “…all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” (Declaration of Independence)
- “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5)
- I have had four children, seen their heartbeats at eight weeks, felt them move anywhere from 12-20 weeks, and felt them respond to voices, music, and movement the entire pregnancy.
- We “cannot believe” that a pregnant woman is smoking, drinking, or drugging, but yet we say (as a society) that it’s okay for her to kill her baby at any time as long as a doctor does it. Whether that child is wanted or not, it IS a child.

3. Welfare
- “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
- There is a difference between CANNOT work and WILL not work. I had only to look around in West Virginia to see that a culture of welfare leads to generations upon generations of people who expect government to take care of them. There should be limits as to how long people get full welfare.
- HOWEVER, I do believe there should be some sort of partial assistance. There is no reason to require someone to NOT work in order to get assistance. Sometimes people just need a LITTLE help, but our system makes sure they get A LOT of help and become dependent on it.

4. Illegal immigration
- I think the name says it all. ILLEGAL. Leave the country and come back legally. My ancestors did it, your ancestors did it – it’s the law.
- If we estimated that there were 12 million murderers (as opposed to illegal immigrants) on the loose, would we change our laws and say that murder isn’t murder? No, I hope. I believe every single illegal alien should be required to leave first. And “anchor” babies should go back with them. Alternatively, they could be adopted out to the many families here that want babies and can’t have them. Either we abide by our laws or we don’t.
- They are not citizens (see the word ILLEGAL), therefore they are NOT eligible for one single solitary benefit or constitutional right. When they make the commitment to be an American, then we’ll discuss it.

5. Global warming
- There is enough dissent to make it only a theory. Temperature stations that used to be out in the middle of nowhere are now in the middle of cities.
- Even if, for the sake of argument, we are in a warming stage – who says this isn’t a cycle of warming/cooling? Does anyone remember as kids learning about the cooling stage we were in?

6. Taxes
- Government has no money of its own – it confiscates the peoples’ money.
- The government must stop baseline budgeting (when you start at the same level as last year). Start at zero EVERY year, cut out what government SHOULDN’T be doing (see #1) and cut taxes.

Why I'm Writing

You might as well know why I'm writing this blog.  I am conservative.  I wasn't always.  I was a raging liberal back in high school (of course, that was 20 years ago).  I grew up in a town that had plenty of "alternative lifestyles", so I accepted them whole-heartedly.  There's a picture of me protesting against the first Gulf War.  I had a bumper sticker on my car (after high school) that said, "If you are against abortion, don't have one."  I believed everyone was entitled to health insurance and that they shouldn't have to pay for it.  I was offered a chance to purchase health insurance when I was 19 or 20 years old, but was told I'd have to pay $100 a month.  My co-workers and I voted it down immediately.  What arrogance.

That arrogance is what I see in liberals.  Each and every one.  It doesn't matter to me if it's Obama, Reid, Pelosi, or ordinary "rank and file" card-carrying Democrats.  I've lived in towns and cities where I've listened to them.  I WAS ONE.  My family is full of them.  They're all the same.  They don't believe that you or I or a minority or anyone else could possibly make it on their own.  It's "not fair".  The government needs to "help".  Of course, they do tend to forget that the government does NOTHING on its own.  The government takes from ordinary people who have worked hard and gives to others depending on the value of the vote bought with that money or entitlement.

I have no room for liberals on this blog.  You want to crab, complain, call me names - do it somewhere else.  This blog is for like-minded folks.  I will not listen to you here.  I listened to you all through high school, my jobs, the news media, politicians, "religious" folks.  I'm here to focus on the the Constitution, the United State of America, and saving it from those liberals and moderates who think we can all just "get along".

If I don't write this down, I do believe I'll drive myself batty.

Well done, Rush

It's been a little over a week since Rush Limbaugh passed away from complications due to lung cancer. While I was not surprised to hear...
